thru axle or quick release?

To get a new fork, I may have to convert to a thru axl system but is it worth the effort of buying a new wheel for it?
Is a thru axl system vastly superior to conventional QR axls for xc and all mountain use or will it cause a serious weight penalty to the bike?

for XC not really but anything that takes a bit of abuse then yes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Really isn't much heavier, only the forks that come with through axels tend to be heavier duty forks, therefore are heavier anyway. It depends on what sort of fork you want.<hr noshade size="1">You bend it, you mend it.0

The benefit increases as the fork length gets longer since longer forks twist easier. You wouldn't notice the difference on F80s but 66s with a QR would be uncontrollable."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0
