I'm looking for a hard tail frame. XC mainly but won't cry when it comes across dirt jumps, light DH on a sort of regular occurrence. I'm about 5" 8', just over 11 stone. the alpine trail i had was small (15" frame i think?) and loved flicking it about.
Prefer steel as the material, £300 but will consider almost anything, I'll be putting parts from my alpine trail on - these bits: http://www.cyclesuk.com/ViewProduct.asp ... /pId/76576

also if you're interested in an alpine trail frame/shock do say :)

  • for anyone who might ever be thinking about this one my personal research has so far thrown up:
    cove handjob
    cotic soul or bfe
    dmr switchback maybe.

  • I'd liked on-one but thought they were jump bikes and singlespeed bigger things so ignored them. but this one looks pretty tasty, thanks. 150 on CRC as well thats almost an impulse buy!
Do steel frames not need replaceable mech hangers?

No you should be able to bend the hanger back into position. :)

  • thanks for the cross link splasher but I'd need a 16" too.

and the prince albert looks nice actually thanks think180, but I think I'm gonna order an on-one tonight. I'll keep it on my list of interesting bikes though. I've got a friend that may want a similar hardtail.

    hmm
The Prince Albert is designed to run on a 130mm travel fork
you won’t notice any adverse handling characteristics when climbing
raced it to an outstanding 6th place finish in the 2005 NPS 4X race

sounds pretty ideal too. thanks for all the replies there's more out there than I thought.
