Bike Shoes & Achilles Heel Tendon

Does anyone have any experience of a particular brand / model of bike shoe aggravating their Achilles tendon? Alternatively, does anyone recommend a shoe because it doesn't aggravate their achilles tendon :?:

I only ask because I have been suffering from a minor niggle in that area. It seems that lasses shoes have a deeper section cut out from the back of the shoe to accommodate the achilles tendon. I don't want this niggle to become a major problem (like my strained trapezius muscle - but that's another story) and am looking to achieve maximum comfort whilst retaining racing cred. Price is not an object because any replacement shoes will be justified on the grounds as being needed for medical reasons

Shoe makes considered thus far included:

Shimano
Northwave
Diadora

Any more out there that might be worth looking at :?:

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

I'd recommend looking at Specialized - am a big fan of BG in shoes (if not necessarily elsewhere). No idea how the achilles cut out is, but as I tend to have problems with heels and don't notice I guess they're probably OK.

You could always try finding a non-girlie coloured pair of ladies shoes if they have a better cutout there :D

Two other things to look out for.
    1) Several years ago I used the Time Equipe shoes and ended up with inflammation of the Achilles - something I didn't have with other shoes. The only reason I could come up with is that the Times had a significant difference in height between the heel and sole. This had the effect of making me pedal "toes-down" , resulting in the heel tab pressing onto the tendon.
    2) I was more prone to the irritation when I was tired or riding long distances.

Since then, I've used Shimano and Sidi shoes and haven't had a recurrence - of the two, the Sidis seem better.
