Help needed replacing a chainset

Help! The non-chainring crank on my wife’s Dolce Elite is no longer useable (stripped pedal thread). It’s a Sugino chainset and I’d like to replace the whole chainset with something a bit better. The Sugino model is 9-speed, 50-39-30 with a 165mm crank. Now, according to the Shimano website, they manufacture the Tiagra chainset with just this specification, however all the shops I’ve contacted (and on Wiggle etc) only seem to offer 170 and 175mm cranks. My wife is small and really needs 165mm, not least because of toe-overlap issues with the front wheel. Can anybody recommend a suitable alternative chainset or a good contact for tracking down the Tiagra with 165mm crank?

Try looking at Stronglight or TA cranks - both do a 165mm triple - the Stronglight Impact is in fact a re-badged Sugino - you may have to chase round for a 165mm tho - try Spa Cycles in Harrogate amongst others. SJS Cycles also do their own model of cranks in various lengths.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

  • thanks for the information; I'll look into your suggestions. Seaching online has revealed that Shimano do not import many of their range to the UK (including Tiagra) with the 165mm crank option. I find this extrodinary. Surely there are shorter folks out there that require a smaller crank? Has anybody been able to a 165mm Taigra chaniset in the UK?
