Hi,

I recently sent my fork in to a shop for the rebound to be slowed down (requires special tool). It seemed fine at first, but on the first ride I noticed that sometimes the fork returns to absolutely no rebound damping, espescially when left standing for a while. I also noticed quite a bit of oil on the bike that smelt kind of sweet after it had been to the shop. Do you think the fork is missing oil? It's no fun riding with a pogo stick on the front of the bike, is there anything I can do?

Cheers

    taki it back and complain.

the "special tool is just an allen key.

    From the manual
    888 VF
Rebound adjustment by internal adjuster - Right leg
Unscrew and remove the protection cap with a 26 mm cap key.
Insert a 3mm Allen key into the stanchion being very careful to center
    the notch of the adjuster.
By turning the adjuster counter-clockwise, you increase the hydraulic
damping making the fork slower during the rebound phase.
By turning the adjuster clockwise, you reduce the hydraulic damping
making the fork more reactive during the rebound phase.
After adjustment, refit and tighten the protection cap to the
    recommended tightening torque.
Re-inflate to the recommended air pressure value.

  • I think I will, would a lack of oil result in this behavour?

The 3mm allen key unfortunately is incredibly long and I have heard that it is very expensive.

if its been left on its side the oil will have drained out of the damping circuits somewhatand need cycling a few times to restore proper damping. The adjuster is a pain in the ar5e i had to drain my oil out to locate so make the shop do it if you're not confident...

adjuster aint that expensive prob a fiver from windwave
  • Do you think at the shop they drained the oil and didn't fill it back up with the right oil height? I can accept the fork needs a bit of cycling after standing still but mine just completely stopped working for a few minutes of riding. Is WIndwave a website I can buy the tool from?

    Thanks

there is no need for them to remove the oil to adjust it so i would not have thought that would have happened.

    but then again? who knows.

  • Does anybody know where I can buy the tool to adjust the rebound, I have searched the net and can't find one anywhere.

it is just a long 3mm allen key. LBS or make one.
