will mtb brake levers work with cross bike canti brakes?

i'm thinking of changing from drop to flat mtb bars on my one-one pompino.
the current brakes are canti - can I use standard mtb brakes levers with these or do I need to switch to a v-brake set-up??

Strictly speaking, V brake levers pull too much cable for cantis (and dual pivots for that matter)

What you need is the older cantilever levers. Shimano do new ones, and ebay always has them.

An alternative is to run Avid SD levers with adjustable modulation e.g. SD5. On their "softest" setting they will work okay.

But I'd chuck the cantis and go full Vs - much better brakes.
