It may well be sunny outside at the moment but by next month winter will be here.

Can anyone recommend good value for money overshoes (something to keep me dry as well as warm) and gloves (nothing too bulky, so my little fingers can still change gear).

Many thanks.

  • Endura Strike gloves are excellent and endura neoprene overshoes are pretty effective as well (although they don't last very long - i got through a pair in about 4 months)

Are there overshoes which have full cordura sides on the crank side? My feet get pretty close to the cranks during pedalling - clipless pedals are set right . This has destroyed my first pair of overshoes, ripping them on my first run with them.

Can anyone recommend any overshoes with strength being the priority?

I have used Spez Submerge gloves for the last 3 winters and last year I used Campag Textran overshoes. The campag overshoes are very neat(and tidy) and when you see them in the flesh they look thin but they are waterproof and keep the toes snug without the bulk of some overshoes.

I'd second the Endura Strike I used them again today on the Pedal for Scotland cycle, constant rain for 50 or so miles and they were great. I've got Altura stream overshoes but I cant really comment on them, I've never used them I prefer my waterproof socks (sealskinz)

Gloves - Altura Nightvision - toasty. Overshoes - I use a variety - cheap neoprene ones with a tough front sole for commuting, to some more expensive waterproof (but thin/warm) Northwave ones for the road bike - but they aren't tough !
  • I used Altura Thermastretch Windproof gloves last year. They are still going strong and their breathability works very well though they are not waterproof.

I use Planet X overshoes which have a kevlar reinforced toe. They do the job, however I do suffer from chilly feet in the winter despite having thermal socks and loose fitting shoes.

Gloves - another vote for Altura Night Vision.

Rather than overshoes I want to recommend some socks, Assos Merino Wool. I've had mine a few years now. Cost about £20. Seems a lot for a pair of socks but I can only recall having cold feet once in them, and that was after a few hours in just above freezing temperatures. Possibly my best bit of kit. Any overshoes will then do.

I'd go for cheap neoprene oveshoes - PX or Ozzo.
Lewiskit makes some nice merino socks - but you need the space for them in the shoe.
I ride MTB shoes in the winter - they have space for thicker socks, and thicker materials.
With gloves - I have a few pairs depending on how cold it is. On the coldest days and nights I will wear my illuminite gloves. They're v warm.
