Fit compact chainrings to normal double chainset?

I have an existing Campag Centaur Double chainset. (beleive 39-53T aprox 2004-5).
I am looking to do some riding in the alps and so want to ride with a compact. However my dilema is if I can fit existing compact chain rings to my current chainset. Thinking the below 34T inner and 50T outer.

Guessing I would need to fit a new chain of shorter length.
Alternatively do I need to go out and buy new chainset. If I have to buy a new campag centaur compact then I'm going to need a new overboard cups as well.
Does anyone know if this new compact chainset can also fit normal double rings as well?
Finally would I need a new front mech to go with any of the above or will existing one do?

You will need a new chainset, the bolt circle diameter of compacts is 110mm as opposed to 135 on standards. Your existing front mech will work perfectly well with a compact, despite Campag's claims.0

If your chainset is an 04/05 model you will not need to change the BB, the models with outboard cups (ultra torque) didn't come out until 07. If you look on e-bay or any large road bike shop you will see that all the 'square taper' fitting chainsets are being sold off. I've just bought a new Veloce chainset (compact) for £35, this would fit fine on your BB. The only models that won't work with your BB are Chorus and Record, they use a different length/asymetric BB.
Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.0 -

Hey, you should also note that you can get 53t and 39t chainrings in the 110bcd compact standard. These are made by TA (I think Stronglight might do them too). Kind of makes 130 and 135bcd redundant0
