I think armadillos have a habit of curling up when threatened and then springing up into the air. While you're busy saying "What the fu..." and crashing, the armadillo makes good its escape.
Theres a world-class physical therapist based in Limerick called Ger Hartmann who includes many of the worlds top runners as his clients. Prior to this line of work, he used to be a triathlete until an armadillo hopped into his front wheel - the resulting crash broke his pelvis, IIRC and he packed in the triathlons.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0
