After 50 miles Cavendish and Serov are in a break 1 min 06 ahead of five other riders who themselves are 3 mins 45 secs ahead of the peloton.

Cav's won the first two sprints of the day, so if he wins the third he'll get the Sprints jersey.

    Go Cav!

You've got to reckon he wants to come out of this with the green jersey to match last year's performance, just a bit odd to see him going off the front - at least there aren't any hills to speak of today.

I'm well impressed by that - how many other bunch sprinters can you think of that are prepared to go on the attack like that - nice one Cav!

He's just picked up second place in the KoM with Geraint Thomas in third - definitely not a lumpy day today!

Er, Daniele Bennati (who won a Tour stage doing exactly that this year), Boonen (when he's in Classics mode), Jan Kirsipiu and the daddy of them all, Mario Cipollini (who won Ghent-Wevelgem from a four man break).

There's always a smart arse.

Serov's won with Cav in second. Looks like Cav got dropped towards the end but might've got enough points to lead the hot spot sprints and green jersey comp (don't take that as gospel though). I assume he'll be after the final stage in Glasgow to round it off and reach his 11 wins.

Scratch the last one about Cav, he's in second place in the green jersey but does indeed have the hot spot sprints jersey (which is clearly not why he came to the race).

I should imagine that Feilleu will be looking for a bunch sprint tomorrow as he's only about four seconds off the yellow jersey and clearly in with a great chance.

And they say the Tour of Britain's boring . . .
  • cav - legend

getting a real slagging on vr

but he is by far our best rider, and today proved he is not only a sprinter, but he can do breakaways and as sunday showed tt's aswell

  • I vaguely remember at the start of the year he said his ideal season would be 10 wins. Job done. I hope he continues his improvements next year.

yeah he did, and much much more to come

he'll win today aswell in glasgow i think

and then depending on worlds selection etc he could pull a major suprise

all depends on whether he can last the distance and nick some1 else's line

t-mobile riders would help him though from other nations

especially as the german squad will be without zabel probably as the organisers say he isnt welcome

I feel pretty confident saying he doesn't stand a chance at this years Worlds. He's very young for the distance AND even if it came down to a sprint, he's still got some improvement before he can beat the big name sprinters.

Give him a few years though and some maturity, then we'll see.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

Not to mention that at the World's he'll be backed by a team of the best cyclists Britain can muster.................................anyone...............................no?

Not true, he'll have the fastest leadout team in the world with Messrs Millar and Wiggins ratcheting it up to 75kph to slingshot him over the line!!

Seriously, whilst I believe Millar and Wigger could do such a thing I think the race will be too long and too hard for Cav to be in the mix in the last kilometres - I wouldn't be surprised if DM manages a top 10 finish though. His late season form has looked good (e.g. Hamburg and Eneco)
