Specialized Hardrock XC rigid (05 model)

It has Truvativ Isoflow with max chainring of 42 teeth. Cassette is 32-12. What are the issues around fitting a chainset more like e.g.48/38/28? Is front mech likely to handle it? Will there be chain slack/length issues?

cassette can go down to a 11T and up to a 34T

the front mech will manage a 44T no questions asked.

a bigger ring may need a new mech.

I've swapped the rings on an old MTB from 22/32/44 to 26/36/48 for commuting and touring. I had to move the mech up slightly because the rings were obviously bigger but other than that it works as well as it ever did.
