Hi,

Nottingham City council are planning to introduce the Workplace Parking levy (WPL), basically they are going to charge companies for each space they provide for an employee (where they are used).

Prices start at £185+VAT a year starting in 2010, going up within 5 years to £350+VAT. :o

The one of the ideas it that it will reduce the number of cars being used for work therefore ease the trip for cyclists and the money raised "would be pumped directly back into public transport"

No ideas how it effects people like me who use the car once a fortnight, if that, or on company business once a month. - They can 8ugg3r off if they think I'm paying for that low usage!

I reckon it will just choke the side roads with frustrated drivers trying to park as close as possible to work to save their legs and money, putting us in more danger

They could use a pay and display system for occasional users. I know some employer's already do that.
  • Does seem a little bit harsh - surely they already pay rates on those spaces. why not just increase that instead of a whole new scheme ?
