Swapping bar-ends for brifters

I've got a Dawes Galaxy that i use a commuter. The bike is great - sturdy rather than fast - but does the job with aplomb.

Ever since I had it the bar-end shifters would every now and then get bashed by my knee when climbing out of the saddle. No biggie but it's starting to p*ss me off.

Is it possible to get rid of the bar end shifters and swap out for brifters without spending a fortune?

How many gears? Do you have the barrel adjusters on the downtube that are required?
  • It's nine gears at the back and three rings at the front. The derailler is indexed the front clanger is friction.

I'll have to have a look for the barrell adjusters.

I really appreciate the help guys.

If you have the barrel adjusters then it will be no problem. Alternatively, you can fit some of these.
  • Cheers.

Any approx cost for the shifters/replacement brakes?
