I returned to cycling a few weeks ago after almost 6months out of action. I managed to do a few 30mile runs bt on Sunday I done our annual 70 mile tour. I managed to complete the run but yesterday I noticed an awful pain in my back, which seems to go right through to my chest. It feels almost like my lung is aching but its hard to pin point it. I'm not chesty or coughing but it feel like a knife has gone though me. Can it be muscular of a lung infection? It started 3days after the run.

  • Get yourself to a doctor.

It's probably nothing, but any serious pain after exercise is a worry, especially if it's anywhere in your chest.

  • Might have pulled an intercostal muscle...there the muscles that attach the lungs to the ribcage sort of thing. I did one a couple of years ago and it was very painful, knife like when you moved around. If I felt a sneeze coming it was just awful the stabbing pain. Cannot do a lot to heal them, they just heal in their own time.
Do a search on google & see if it sounds like what yoru feeling...I was totally unaware when I did mine in, it just came on overnight, but if you have just been fairly sedentry and then gone zipping about twisting & turning etc, it could have caused it
Other than that, yep go check with a doctor, better safe than sorry!
  • Thanks both of you, it is almost gone now. Took a few Ibruphen tablets and rested and it has all but gone, thanks
