Flying Snakes cables are the best investment u can put into ur drivetrain to help keep things running smoothly.

I absolutely cannot believe the difference they make, everythings so light action and smooth even after a few months now when my old cables (shimano XTR) were pretty much useless.

They're not the cheapest outthere but u really do get what u pay for.
  • er... yeah. Back on topic.

Today my new inner wire arrived... I went for the teflon coated ones in the end... anyway... prior to installing them I decided to give the rear mech an overhaul... (Deore Mech) - which, I have to say, was a great deal easier than I'd anticipated (having never done it before)... big cheers for the Park tools website... hip hip...

    anyway... I digress.

Everythings back in it's rightful place, the (new) cables in... and I think I've finally sussed the 'black art' of indexing... HUZZAH!... (so that should save me a few 50p's) ;)

It's just a little query really based on what i've learnt...

    answers on a postcode please...

It's to do with the tension position of the internal spring on the cage arm of the derailuer... I understand what it physically does, but i'm not sure in circumstances one would want it high and low respectively.

I'm looking at points 7, 16 and 17... of this guide from park tools...

  • excuse the bump...

I'm still no closer to understanding the following...

re 7,16,17- higher tension would make hold the chain under more tension - benefit may reduce chain slap a little detrement increased tension may reduce ability to shift. Suggest that the arm tension is a design compromise between the ability to derail and to keep chain under tension.
As the spring ages and looses its er well sping moving to the higher tension whole may rejuvinate the deraileur.

:? or this could be a load of tripe -
  • :? hmm makes sense I suppose...
