Perhaps it would take on some symbolic role as it happened just on the eve of the football game between the national teams of Russia and England in the European qualifiers. I hope it will give the players additional motivation.
DOOOOH!!!
All in all, Russian cycling lives happy days now. Denis Menchov and Vladimir Efimkin lead in the Vuelta, Tinkoff Credit Systems comes to the front in the United Kingdom. Who knows, probably we enter the renaissance period of cycling in Russia.
Re-birth of Russian cycling eh? When was the last hgih point in Russian cycling then? Did I miss it?0 -

As we say over here, did Oleg, umm, have drink taken?
As Iain pointed out, there were no Russian professionals until the Alfa Lum team started signing them up in the late'80s. However, their "amateurs" (mainly full-time bike riders on state training programmes and probably juiced to the eyeballs) were savage. They'd arrive over to amateur or pro-am races with grotty bikes and second-hand jerseys and demolish the opposition. I remember in the early '80's, one of their party tricks on events like the Milk Race was to fire 2 or 3 of their riders out of the bunch. The escapees would then ride right alongside their team-mates backwheel and grab the seatpost - they'd then form in effect a 3-rider, 6 wheeled bike, the speed would go up another couple of mph and they were gone.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -
