Paris Nice 2008
Anyone know any dates/route details for next years race. I've acquired the motorhome and was planning a trip for next spring. I need something to look forward to over the dark winter months
I'm gonna have my own race to the sun, in a motorhome :P

They usually only announce late - I think this year it was only in January?Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0

Thanks Iain. This year it was from 10th - 18th March. Is it reasonable to assume it will be the same week next year ??0

The 2008 race calendar will be published by the UCI during the World Championships. At least that's what they normally do but with some doubt about the future of the Pro Tour, and specifically with the inclusion of ASO organised events in the Pro Tour, then that might be in doubt.
That said, the dates should be the second week in March as that is when it's traditionally held.0 -
Anyone seen anything yet ???? Seems very late to be releasing the route, I've camp sites to book !!!!! 8)0

pat1cp you're a lucky lucky man0

The official (ASO) website still only gives details of the opening prologue in Amilly oh March 9th but it could be worthwhile keeping an eye on their website for further details in the near future. Good luck with following the race.0 -
We can't wait forever so here are the unofficial host towns and a very rough route map:

Thanks Steephill, you've come up with the goods again. I'll loosely plan my trip based on this then firm things up when the official route is released.

I think Mont Serein is almost certain. The locals have been talking about it for months.
It will be nice and cool up there in March, there's tons of snow at the moment
The day after though, from Althen des Paluds to Sisteron is interesting. We've been waiting for the start village to be confirmed but Althen is tiny, it really is like two buildings in the middle of a field0 -

... then you better hurry up and decide on which one of the two are going to stay at before all of the accommodations are filled.

just incase anyone is interested http://www.letour.fr/2008/PNC/COURSE/us ... cours.html
Are they going up Mount Ventoux in March :?:  Or is only so far up ?
And does anyone know if Eurosport are covering the race this year ? Now that the Pro-Tour has gone belly up.0 -
Mont Serein is a ski station but two thirds of the way up. Great stage in prospect but if the weather is bad, I'm glad to be a spectator.0

Ah something tells me that summit finish won't happen. Didn't the riders whinge about the bad weather on Plan de Corones in 2006, which led to a shortened stage?0 -
If you want to call 3 feet of snow on a gravel road a road race is supposed to climb "bad weather", yes they did. Quite justifiably so according to my parents who were standing on that mountain.0

Ah, my mistake. Basso would've still won it even if they'd gone up there, seeing that we now know how. :P0 -
He had it completely sewn up by the time they got to that stage. What a boring Giro that was, considering the grandiose parcours.
I don't remember the name "Mont Serein". Has it been used in other races in past years?0 -
Mont serein has been used from time to time in Paris - Nice.
On this pic here, (taken yesterday! )

Mont Serein is located at the white horizontal line to the right, below the 4 vertical ski pistes.0 -

What am I going to be watching ? Some French amateurs maybe ?
McQuaid and Prudomme, what a pair of t0ssers. Thay are possibly the two most powerful men in cycling and need to get a grip. Stop trying to line their greasy little pockets and do what's best for cycling.
Is that asking too much ? :evil:0 -
Without getting into the rights & wrongs, its is just a pity as for me this race is the start of the season as its on telly & your not depending on dodgy internet feeds to watch it! Also for the last couple of seasons the winner has went on & done a decent (well, sort off) tour!0

Contador won last year ? Some might argue it was an indecently good Tour... :?0
