People commuting by BMX & night in Hyde Park, no lights

Seriously, I'm not having a go. Why?!

My current bike is too small for me and it's a pain, I can't wait to get my new bigger bike and have done everything I can to extend the seatpost (not easy with a Peugeot!) so I can ride vaguely efficiently. I have no idea why someone would choose to ride with their knees sticking out. And even I can overtake them, which is saying something. I'm interested to know!

And as for Hyde Park...I recently went home that way after visiting someone in hospital after dark. Didn't fancy it but the boyf said it was the most direct way so I followed him as we both had lights.

What is with all the nutters zooming along with no lights? You vaguely hear something, then a dark shape whizzes towards you at speed...it was very disconcerting. When I went the second night on my own I went via the back streets parallel to Park Lane, it was slightly out of my way but worth it. Also I'm not very fast so any nutter could have knocked me off my bike and dragged me off to murder me...

  • a) my bike is a bit too small but I like it cos it is super light & manouvrable through traffic (it's a 16" MTB frame and I am 6'1"). I do have a n 18" frame I should move everything on to but I'm in no rush

    b) shout out "get some lights" at these tossers. (You may only wish to this when you are withyour boyfriend...) 8)

  • Nice to see you again el presidente.

I suppose smaller bikes are easier to manouvre, but those BMXs are titchy.

I've adopted a policy of never shouting anything, at anyone! If I can help it that is. I'm not fast enough to evade the consequences if they flip for one thing.
