Gotta love this commuting thing...

It's easy to get cynical with all the near misses, abuse and SMIDSY etc, etc...But this morning's ride in was gorgeous (yes, even a ride into the middle of Birmingham can be gorgeous). It was cool (but not cold), the sun was out with just a hint of a mist, the leaves on the trees just beginning to turn golden brown, not a breath of wind, and for whatever reason, not much traffic...oh and by the way I was fast, very, very fast.
It was an almost spiritual experience - I love mornings like this...

yesterday I met a charming lady at a traffic lightroad0

Yesterday was quite a pleasant commute. I got talking to a fellow cyclist about routes into work, getting lost and how shocking it was that the 13yr old girl crossing the road in front of us was smoking ;-)
Then on the way back I found myself cycling along behind an very attractive woman, although I spent most of my time admiring her very attractive bicycle (I think it was a Genesis Day 03)...
I guess there was one point when I had to do an sharp stop for a guy who was doing a turn in a road in a delivery van whose front end suddenly shot into the cycle lane I was using, but as I was in quite a placid mood, it really didn't bother me.0 -
I agree, nice these last few mornings before the clocks go back.FCN 100

Sorry it is longer then my post suggests.
But all too soon it'll be dark. First time out on the bike in the dark with the new lights on was Tuesday, cant believe how dark it is so early. We are nearly in the middle of September already, this year is flying!FCN 100 -

You're right, must remember to stick my lights in my bag just in case I have to work late. Clocks back towards end of October I think.road0 -

Sydney's getting very pleasant too, except I and everyone else has a cold.

London very quiet at the moment though there seem to be more cyclists than ever.
I counted about two hundred between Angel Islington and Gray's Inn last night in ruch hour - a distance of about a mile.
Suppose it will be back to normal though once the clocks change and the strike breakers get bored with it...\'Cycling in Amsterdam.is not a movement, a cause, or a culture.It\'s a daily mode of transportation. People don\'t dress special to ride their bike any more than we dress special to drive our car... In the entire 1600 photographs that I took, there were only three people in "bike gear" and wearing helmets.\' Laura Domala, cycling photographer.0 -
I love communting this time of year, I have a nice few miles to ride along the South Devon sea front every day.0

On my daily commute into Birmingham I have never, ever (in 15+ years) seen more than 5 people on bikes per commute...Crash 'n Burn, Peel 'n Chew

I quite agree. There's nothing quite like it for waking you up in the morning, and starting your day at work on a high. Also, it helps me to wind down after a stressful day at work. My commute takes about an hour each way, and it's a great way of having some quality, peaceful time to think about life, and to realize how lucky I am, despite all the minor problems in life.
