ive got a pair of Tora 302 SL's on my rockhopper, as yesterday i took the bike out for the first time in about a month, and all the damping seams to have gone!
- It was fine last time i rode it down llangdegla, and the odd times ive used it to get to the shops.
- But yesterday, and again today, absolutly nothing. No lockout, no damping, no rebound.

Clearly somthing has gone very much wrong inside, and its going to the shop on saterday stright away, plus shes due her free service off them anyway, but just wondering what might have happened?
- Shes about 6months old, and done about 150miles of XC and light downhill.

Standing up right, on her wheels, in the hallway.
    - So shes not kept upside down or anything like that, although no ones ever mentioned that being a problem to me?
    - She also usally travels upright, eather in the back of the family MPV, or for a large outing, in the trailer rack we have.

The only time shes really ever other than upright is when im carrying her in my car (pug306) when naterally she lies down briefly.
    - However, that said, last time i came back from a weekend away with her (got in at 2in the morning) she was left in the car over night (on her side) till about 7 the following mornin when i got up for work and put her in the house. Just exactly between the last there where fine, and the first time the problem occured.

Damm. Could the really affect it?

    Anyway.
    - Ive rung the bike shop (chester bike factory) and i think shes going to be going in this weekend for her first major service, which is 'free' with the sale of the bike.
    - I have mentioned this problem on the phone, and he said to mention it when i droped it off and it will be investicated.

Im guessing this should be covered with the bike/forks warrente?

  • She probably feels neglected, take her out for a nice meal.

Sometimes the damping oil can collect above the damper if left on its side or upside down. You just have to cycle the fork a few times and it will be fine, as in the instructions.

    Right.
    - Well i have pumped it a fair bit, making sure that it wasnt just me, or anything.

I also ended up going on a short ride yesterday anyway, just an hour on gravel/paths etc as i'd arranged it with my housemates and everythiung and didnt want to duck out last minute.
    - It did not feell any better (or worse) after that, so im not sure at all. Hopefully it hasnt done any damaged using it like that, and eatherway we'll just have to see what the shoip say unltimatly i guess. I just dont want to loose the bike for three weeks geting them sent back to rockshox or anything, or have to fork out (oh dear) for the new forks.

Yeah well, the rebound/lockout doesnt do anything at all as i said.
    - And the preload, which i did wiggle about with as well, just does what i should. Still no damping.

Very odd. Droped her off yesterday for looking at on monday, but its quite possable the shocks will have to go back to rockshox for them to look at.

Ah, wasnt sure wheter you had tried readjusting, you just said there was no damping. If its not the oil collecting in the upper tubes, as it seems not, then one for the shops to sort out.
  • Yes,twiddle her adjusters,then as tubsolard said,take her out for a nice meal!! :D

    Yeah, they went back.

Apprently some part that is pressing in at manufator had come out or somthing.
    - They guy saids he's never seen it happen to them before, and also doesnt think its due to anything ive done, just a freak manufatoring error that took a while to show up.

Anyway, all covered, and im picking the bike up again on thurday ready for fridays run down cannock.
