Brake problem

I have a problem and need some advice. I have recently purchased a new frame (bianchi freccia celeste 2005 ) . Problem is my rear brake will not fit, the screw is not long enough to reach the recessed nut that fits through the frame. The front brake fits on the back as the screw is longer. Essentially I need a longer nut that can fit through frame , I have been to my local bike shop and their advice was to buy two front brakes. Surely I can find some other way, I hope this makes sense and someone can offer a solution. Finding a supplier who can sell me two front brakes (campag ) would work. Any ideas ?

If you're using Campag brakes (presumably other brands as well) the front and back brakes are different designs. The front is beefier as it does more work than the back brake. The advice to buy two front brakes can't be right, surely? I had a similar issue when I bought some Centaur brakes recently - the bolt for the front brake wasn't long enough to fit through the fork, so I just used the bolt from the old brakes.

A competent LBS should have a selection of bolts of different lengths - they seem to range from 1cm to 2 or 3cm long. Something like this should do it...

Thats exactly what i was looking for ! I was trying to fit my original brakes to this new frame which being carbon has chunkier rear stays than my previous alloy frame. Thanks a lot I'll order that part right away, beats trying to find two front brakes.
  • The Bianchi frame should have come with the extra long bolt for the rear calliper. It's usually shipped in the bag of bits along with the seat clamp, headset bearings and other odd bits.

What a load of numbties at your LBS! If the've never come across longer brake bolts then I don't reckon much on what other advise they'd give.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Isn't that what Scottish cyclists get in the winter?
