RockShox pikes or an alternative fork ?

Ok I've now confirmed that my bike stage 2 upgrade will be the replacement of the truvativ isoflow with a shimano m760 hollotech chainset (thanks to suggestions by everyone here and alot of disgruntled bike store tech guys who blasted the stylo's fragility))and avid juicy 7 brakes (the juicy 7s just went down in price) but now the fork is now in question . The cannondale Prophet 4 comes with a run of the mill tora fork but the prophet 3 (which shares the same geometry as the 4) has a pike fork .
Would upgrading to a pike be a logical choice despite protests from my LBS that the pike's thru in axle will cause a huge weight increase on my frame setup because I have to expend to a new wheel too?
The type of riding I do is generall cross country with a few steep hills . Is this a good idea or are there any other forks between 130mm and 140mm I should consider?

well it depends on the wheel.
new wheel/hub then pike (but there might be a lighter option)
if no new wheel the RS revelation.
have a read of http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12544058"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

The wheel hub recommended I add to the bike was a hope selt adaptable front wheel with dt swiss hubs that can change from quick release to thru in priced at £94.99 . Would this be a good combination with a pike or is there a fork other than rockshox that can offer 140mm at a competitive price but doesn't need a new wheel?Specialized Camber

you are 100% that you have to have 140mm? not 130mm?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Well I'm planning to take this bike to scotland soon and i intend to fully rip on it . Would keeping my travel 130mm be sufficient or or this justifying 140mm?Specialized Camber

yours came with a tora? what year?
looking at the 07 bikes you could go to 150mm if you wanted.
what about seeing if you could get a Marz 55 adjustable 120 to 160mm travel
and there are some 140mm Mraz from a few years back that were 140 or 150mm with Qr."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

mine are tora 318 late 06 model i believe without the poploc adjustment
Would a marz need a new wheel too looking after googling it?
plus wouldn't 160mm upset my bikes handling abilities/?Specialized Camber

the 55 yes
have a look through CRC forks. just about any 130-150mm for that is not manitou will be ok.
could go longer as long as the sus is adjustable to the 130-140 range for general riding."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

The 318 aint a bad fork for the money - motion control damper - stiff too. But if you must have longer travel, then will have to change.0
