Stiff steering column

After I got my bike back from a service at the LBS, I noticed that the steerig column is very stiff, and this was not the case when it went in for service.
I don't want to take it back to the LBS, as it isn't really that local. I have tried loosening the bolt at the top of the headset, but that made no difference, and nor did a liberal spraying of lube.
Any ideas???

might have to loosen the bolts holding the handlebar stem onto the forks as well as the bolt on the top of the headset. This should ease the pressure on the bearings if the headset has been over adjusted. Worth a try.0

There's little point loosening the top bolt if the stem is still tight on the steerer tube..
If it so stiff it affects the steering loosen the stem bolts then back off the top bolt a quarter turn, retighten the stem bolts on the steerer then retighten the top bolt..
If it's not affecting the steering leave it .Your LBS might even know what they are doing.0
