Looking for recommendations pls
For a race set of wheels i am prepared to break the bank but wanted opinions on these two set ups i am thinking of....
mavic Crossmax sl + stans no tubes + maxxis crossmark 2.1 UST @ +-£600
or
mavic 717 + Hope pro 2 + Stans + maxxis crossmark @ +-£350
Weight vs strength vs durability etc etc
Does anybody use Stan's no tubes with these set up's?
Cheers

I'd save your money and go with the XC717s on ProIIs. I use the 717 rims and they are very good. Only had to have them trued once in over a year. They wont be as light as the Crossmax but, for a £300 saving, are you going to notice 100-200g of weight? Perhaps out of your wallet!0

XTR hubs instaed of hope. Or the XTR wheelset.0

I had a similar dilemma a couple of weeks back. I was going to go either SLR or Pro II on XC717.....
in the end I opted for XTR M975 on DT Swiss 4.2d. Should be here anyday now (custom build from Merlin) - cost about £250 or thereabouts (excluding centerlock rotors and new cassette)
Should make a nice wheelset0 -

I've got the pro II's on 717 disc and they realy are a great wheelset, smooth as silk and roll forever, but......................................they are soooooo loud on the freewheel.0

Add a touch more grease into the pawls to make it quieter if the Pro II noise annoys you!0

719's on Pro II's will be arriving soon, hopefully as good as my S-type's on Pro II's!0

Absolutely AWESOME - I have the exact same setup on my AM rig (see linky)
Very tight wheelset - can take a fair bit of abuse as well0 -
Same dilema for me a bit back, decided to save some cash and go for the Hope 2 on 719's so far so good very happy with them.0

My new wheels arrived yesterday. Had a blast round the Red at Glentress. Very, very fast now (when compared to my old wheels). Look brilliant too. Pentlands today shall be another interesting test!0

717's on Tune hubs. The connoisseurs choice.0

I had the 717 and Pro II wheelset built at Merlin. Absolutely no problems whatsoever in 4 months of rough/rocky XC riding. I run Stans and the only problem I have is getting the right tyre for Llandegla. Had a lot of punctures with tubes on the 717's before switching to Stans. Now I'm tubeless, tyres ripping and getting cut up is my only problem.
Maxxis High Rollers are my latest test tyre. They inflate fine on the rim and are pretty air tight. Just Riding Along recommend any Maxxis tyre for Stans Tubeless set-up.
Panaracer Razor and Continental Speed Kings Protection have both cut up badly.0
