Hi

I've bent the aluminium front lever.:(

I need to remove it to straighten it.
Is it possible to do this without the spring flying out?

I've looked at this (Page 27) but it's still unclear to me:

In another it says this lever is 'infinitely adjustable'. Is the position of it adjustable?

Any tips/advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers
Dave F.

    Dave what year is it?

does it have the indiacator around the bar? and i guess you mean the lower lever (the long one) and not the short one?

    Thanks for the prompt reply

It's an '07 with no indicator. as the diagram in the pdf.

Yes, It is the front lower one that's looks like it's made of aluminium.

Although I'm not sure, I thought the other black lever one was plastic?

true but just making sure we are talking about the same one.

i would hazzard a guess that the lever is cast and not forged so rebending is likely to cause a break. i would look at getting a replacement.

the spring only flies out of the top.

  • Bash your knee against it? I've done that a few times.

The good news is that you can take the shifter apart and carefully bend it back.

The way I've done it is to put it in the vice, with a screwdriver or similar round piece of metal against the outside of the bend, and another on the opposite side at each end of the lever. Then just close the vice to bend it just a fraction past straight.

Undo the vice and it should be straight.

The bad news is that to get the lever out you will end up with a lot of small loose pieces. If you're careful taking it apart, though, you should be able to get everything back in the right place after only a couple of tries!

    Good luck...
