I can't bear to look at my bike anymore with flats on it - just ain't right - not on a race bike anyway. I also want to improve my cycling so am going to start rising clipless....... oooh err

I didn't want to spend a fortune on pedals only to find I hated them so opted for a pair of Shimano M520s - they only cost me £20 and seemed to come up trumps in every review I came across of them - and it helps them being adjustable and all that jazz.... if I get on with them will eventually go XTR

I need a pair of offroad shoes that don't look too shabby and am looking at about £60 max

Anyone have any recommendations - I know zilch about these shoes....

  • I've got a set of Northwave, good enough for the casual rider but as you mention this is a race bike I think you will need something with a stiffer sole.

You can't go wrong with SIDI or Shimano's shoes. All my buddies ride with Shimano boots.

CRC has a sale on at the moment i think
  • i've had some diadora chillies for the past 12 months and can't fault them. merlin cycles sell them for £65.

I've got some Spesh MTB comps a bit more than your £60 but I love them nice stiff sole and a really snug fit.

You really need to try some out to see what fits your feet a tried quite a few on before I settled on the comps.

  • I wear the Specialized MTB Sport shoes, recently got 10/10 in one of the magazines. I find them very compfortble and have the stiff sole you want.

The negative I have with them is when you have long steep climbs they aren't the most comportable, but nor a most stiff soled shoes. General pushing they are fine, just stuff like climbing up the High Street they can be a pain.

  • There's some good bargains to be had out there - trouble is I have big feet 10/11 and most of them don't stock them and on wiggle they are 'discountinued'

I was looking at these cannondale:

The evans at Gatwick has an end of lines section with some good discounts might be worth giving them a ring as most the stuff left are unusual sizes.
