Shimano Saint...

Well i read and hear nothing but good reviews about the shimano saint crankset. And today my BB went and to be honest this has lasted less than 3 month Raceface too which is quite a let down, i think its a bad one out of the bunch as i had the same model before with no issues. Anyway down to business i ride a 06 Kona Coiler typically ride FR, DH and odd XC now ive got to be honest i very rarely drop down onto my 22 so i recently decided to remove it, for a smoother ride... until the BB went.
But now with the Saint on the horizon im not sure whether to opt in for the 22/32 or just go out and get a single 42? Will i look a pillock? Anyone do this? I would imagine i get a stronger, smoother ride?
Just dont want to invest in a Saint and then regret not getting the double, An advise or is it down to personal preference?

XC on a colier with just a 42 would not be my cup of tea, unless all your hills are downward pointing.
Also, is your BB shell faced?0 -
Aye thats what im thinking, I have just read it does allow chain guides and chain guard so im not as fussed as before 32/22 sounds good. As for shell faced ill be honest and say im not sure. The bike was left over at a mates during maintenance so i didnt get to see the bikes in bits. He did mention the BB was very rough but me being me thought id risk a week or so0

External BBs work best when the BB shell on the bike is faced (making the surfaces parallel). Bearings will last longer.0
