hydraulic brake compatability with Shimano ST-EF50 shifters

i have got a gt avalanche 3.0 with crap brakes, so i have ordered some avid juicy 3's, and have realised that i have Shimano ST-EF50 8 speed EZ fire shifters on my bike with built in brake. i have seen other avalanch models with hydraulic brakes and these same shifters on the net, so i am confused. can i remove the brake but keep the shifters????? what do i do? if anyone can help it would be great

You need new shifters - you have combined shifters and brakes used for cable brakes. Avalanches with hydro discs have seperate shifters.0
