Childseat + Rear Panniers = Wheelieprone?

Getting the family along to the London Freewheel event in a couple of weeks. Both boys have a rear child carrying seat one on my wifes MTB and the other on mine.

I'm going to need to carry a fair amount of gear on the day (nappies, milk etc.) and was slightly worried that if I fitted rear panniers it would make the rear of the bike a little too heavy.

Would it be more sensible to fit front panniers? And if so, can you get some that are relativley cheap that fit suspension forks?

Thanks in advance for any help.

unless you are going up a steepish hill I would guess it should be ok, never could fit panniers onto my bike when child seat atached.
  • I've always used low rider front panniers with a child seat. That was mostly because I couldn't fit rear panniers with the bike seat, but I think it does help by giving better weight distribution.
