Extra float with Time?

Does it take a few rides for the pedals to bed down, or am I misunderstanding the meaning of float? If anything they seem tighter, with less rotational movement allowed compared with Shimano (MTB pedals with MTB pedals).

Which Time pedals? If the MTB ones I found they allow alot more rotation than SPDs (using the cleats with the beginner direction), if road pedals, not got a clue!
  • The Time road pedals have lateral float built in as part of the package - you can tell by giving a little twist of your foot left or right, not much mind, or else you will unclip yourself.

You get 2.5% lateral float and 5% angular float. These are not huge percentages so the float you experience wont be that big.

Some people hate the float - skating on ice feeling - but it suits me down to the ground as I suffer dodgy knees and Look pedals really screwed me up for a season.

Likewise with the knees, plus whilst I have learnt to walk with my feet straight, when sprinting my feet revert to their natural heel out awkwardness, hence why I use my old Onza clipless pedals with loads float (10/15 degrees?). :)
    Wheelies ARE cool.

  • Yep, that was my problem - my heels go out brining the knees in and something had to give - the tendons!
