Wide tyres and caliper brakes

I was looking through an old C+ last night and came across a review of forks. One fork was a Bontrager that was drilled for Caliper brakes and had no bosses for cantis. The reviewer pointed out that the fork was wide enough for 32C tyres.

Which caliper brakes would take a tyre that wide? How wide a tyre can you get on your caliper equipped bike?

Might be able to manage it with some of the calipers that are aimed at tour/Audax machines running 'guards and beefier tyres - Alhonga "Big Dog" brakes, for instance.

I'm using 32c tyres on my light tourer c/w calilper brakes, the brakes look pretty bog standard Tektro Shimano copies, the fork is an ITM jobby with mudguard eyes, similar to:

but is older with an alu steerer.
