Bike for commuting

Can anyone recomend a decent bike for about £250.00 that would be good for commuting about eight miles. I would prefer drop bars if possible.

I know the same question was asked yesterday but I have a tight budget after moving house and not expecting someone to steal my last bike!

Thanks

At that price point, with the desire for drop-bars I would seriously look at buying a used bike.

You should be able to find a good condition couple of year old Spesh Allez or similar at that sort of price point in the small ads. Particularly now the nights are getting longer and the weather colder!

I can't atm think of anything new that would be suitable with drops, and even allowing flats you are at the very edge budget wise for anything adequate for a regular commute.

  • You can get a Giant OCR 4 from wiggle.co.uk for £259 - don't know if it's a good bike, but it's a recognised brand..... anybody got experience?

  • I'd recommend the Revolution Courier from the Edinburgh Bike Coop. Flat bars but exactly £250. I've been using one for past 6 months on a 5-mile commute and had no problems.
