They are very different. The Kara Kum is an expedition style tourer. It has a triple chainset and good low gears for hills / loads. It has butterfly bars. The Audax Sport is a lighter machinbe, and whilst it will take panniers it is for light loads touring only. It has drop bars and STI shifters (good, in my view). It doesn't have a triple chainset which I think is a mistake on Dawes part.

The Audax would be a better commuter if you like drops and don't want to use it for heavy duty touring.

Perhaps a half way house would be the Dawes Horizon which has drops, sti's and would do full on touring, or the Edinburgh Cycles Revolution Country Traveller.

If you want flats and just a fast commuter then maybe the Carrera Gryphon or Giant FCR.

Anyway, I think the Kara Kum is likely to be slow / heavy / overbuilt for your intended use.
