Beautiful Litespeed Vortex Ti frame. Blackbars and saddle just looks "ordinary". Fancy white bar tape and saddle. Cool or not - you vote!

I went for all red to match red frame on my bike, doesn't look too bad. The red handlebar tape went gray after a few weeks, white would be even worse. I'm just looking for a red saddle, to with my red tyres and red tape.

  • Deeply and depressingly uncool. Would you wear white shiny shoes to the pub.?????

    Nope.

    Says enough.

White is the new black - Fizik bar tape and saddles stays white and are easily cleaned.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Think I asked the same question a few weeks back with regards my far less expensive '06 Allez Sport.

Having invested £400 in white RR1850 wheels I thought the black saddle and bar tape let the side down a bit.

Since then, 4 rimside punctures and seemingly the onset of winter (though today was a nice ride) have made me think again.

I did see some nice pictures people posted of white-wheeled, white saddled bikes with white bar tape and they looked yum.

I'd say go for it but I've decided to relegate my current bike to the winter bike and have my heart set on a new bike for Christmas.

I have a white framed Bianchi topped off with white bar tape and white Toupe saddle. I think it looks good. But, I do need to clean my bar tape quite frequently - usually with kitchen cleaner.
  • I also have a white Bianchi with a white toupe saddle!

The saddle has been fine for 2 years so far.

I've gone back to Celeste bar tape after a brief spell with white. It's OK if you clean it often and you don't have any wheel/chain problems and then get it on the tape - DOH!

Spooky - just been thinking about the same for my Vortex. Got black at this moment but thinking of a white Toupe on a USE Ti post, with matching white tape.
I'd be keen to see a pic if you do 'go white'.

  • why don't you do fizik electric blue tape and saddle, it looks the nuts on my moots!
    dangerous jules.

I used to have a red saddle - no issues with it going off colour over time to report so you should be OK with one. Only reason for ditching it is that it didn't match my new frame! In fact, if you're still struggling to find a saddle and want it as a stop-gap, drop me a PM (I'll price it at a fiver including the P&P). It's a Selle Italia Maurizio - rather like a Flite but cut away a bit more around the back - with blue & yellow Kevlar bits at the rear, stitched "compass rose" logo on the top, and manganese steel rails. Good nick, no real scuffing and no history of accidents.

What about a zebra skin effect for the bars, that could tie in the black stem and seat post? A zebra saddle would also be cool but I've never seen one.

Didn't Cipollini have zebra-effect kit (and possibly also a 'zebra' paint job on his Specialized) when riding for Acqua & Sapone a few years ago. I'd be surprised if he didn't have a matching saddle for added pose-value!

  • definitely cool! very "euro"
  • if you like or don't mind thin bar tape, then fizik stays white, and is very good in the wet (i.e. not slippy).

Indeed - I believe he rode that in the 2002 TdF as the colours were then introduced onto the S-Works E5 SLX frame for 2003. This was Specializeds top bike before the advent of carbon bling!!! The same frameset appeared to being used on certain 2006 Allez models.

An acquaintance of mine had that as a replica kit. Shorts and shirt. Luckily I never saw it in the flesh, just pictures
