derailleur hanger sheared off
I had a bit of a disasterous ride yesterday, starting with an undignified topple onto the drive side when setting off (a clipless moment), a p******e halfway round, malfunctioning CO2 inflaters necessitating the acquisition of a mini pump and finally a catastrophic mechanical failure when the rear mech sheared off and became entangled in the spokes.
It looks as though the rear mech must have taken some of the weight of the original fall, bending the hanger (ie the bit which the rear mech bolts onto by the dropouts - I think it's called the hanger) and ultimately after 40 miles of fairly hard riding, the hanger has sheared by the bolthole. The bolt securing the rear mech has come out, stripping the thread a bit, but the mech itself looks OK.
My question then is: is it possible to replace the hanger only or is the hanger an integral part of the frame? and can I replace the stripped bolt? It's Campag Veloce on a Bianchi SL3 Alu/Carbon (2005 model)

On most bikes the gear hanger is a replaceable part. The idea is that this part snaps instead of the frame and sometimes saves the mech too. Some frames don't have replaceable hangers they are usually (though not always) made of Steel, Titanium or Carbon. Fortunately your's did!
Contact the shop you got the bike from, they should be able to get another hanger for you.
Edit: Sorry just saw it was a Bianchi (a fine choice ). Last time I looked. Evans cycles had Bianchi hangers listed on their website.
You might be able to repair the mech bolt - best bet is to talk http://www.italiancycleproducts.co.uk/.0 -
Thanks, MagliaCeleste. I will pop down to my LBS (Bianchi Dealer) and get him to have a look at it. Just didn't want to waste a journey if it was irreplaceable.0
