After checking out the start list this morning, who would you think has a shout of winning? With tours like this its really wide open (since a single breakaway could do it), but with the prologue at the start I think a breakaway into Southampton is unlikely.

My top 5 would probably be:

Pedersen (CSC)
Gerdemann (TMO)
Tjallingii (SKS)
Blanco (DUJ)
Lloyd (DFL)

  • I think it could be Evgeni Petrov, but looking forward to seeing the brits do well, especially Kristian House be interesting to see if he's improved.
Its on tv next sunday bbc2 at noon.
  • No Petrov anymore, and no Ignatiev :?

The teams have changed a bit on the website, but IMO on a whole the riders have got slightly better. Agritubel have a strong team also, a lot of capable riders yet no-one stands out.

I'd love to see Plowman Craven do well (mainly because one of their riders, Simon Gaywood, used to be in our club and I've known him since he was 15) - Gordon McCauley is probably their best bet for the overall. But watching the Tour of Ireland just goes to show the difference between good UK squads and good continental squads.

Very difficult to pick a winner as many of the riders are not so well known so it's hard to say who the route would suit. As mentioned, and as shown in the Tour of Ireland, one decent break could be enought to secure victory.

If I was a gambling man (although my current PTP results confirms it's just as well I'm not) I'd go for Servais Knaven.
  • Depends on whoever gets into the big breakaway tomorrow, which all races of this size and status usually end up being decided by. I could of course be wrong.
  • I would like to see Mark Cavendish do something, i see he took the prologue today.

I hope to see a good sprint finish in Southampton tomorrow ah that reminds me i need to charge up the batteries for the camera.

Tuesday i feel is the toughest day of the tour, i know that route very well and think there will be some good opportunities for breaks on the climbs although Porlock Toll road is not an overly hard climb, i would have preferred to see them climb Porlock hill like in the Tour of Britain of old. The course is very up and down so wont give many opportunities for the pack to pull in any breakaways.
