Am building up a titanium frame and wish to use Campag. Doing my head in which chainset to use. Should it be the Comp or Race, or Record? I'm not going to the expense of carbon as am recovering from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) so do not need high performance or light-weight gram shaving. Do I really need a 10 spd or should I go nine spd. I need triple 'cos being in recovery I need the range.

Get a compact 10 sp. In my opinion, unless you are racing the Record is overkill. Centaur or Chorus are 'bling 'enough and perfectly adequate for most club riders.

Get the triple :) Sometimes it's reassuring to know that you have a little extra in the bag. Get the one with the colour you like. I like silver. Since the chainsets are similar, why not try and find a 2006 Veloce triple?
  • A 10 speed Campag crank is pretty much a 9 speed crank...either will work with the other without problems.

You can get some quite good deals on non Ultra Torque Record and Chorus cranks but stock up on a couple of bottom brackets for them as they need a different axle length to the only version made now..
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

Thankx! G.Butler has 2004 170mm Record triple at £80 which is not a lot more in £'s than the Veloce etc. Good point about Record is for racing but at that price (the quality of the finish I'm sure must be good) then that should suffice. This bike is going to last forever and I will not replace it. I do need a triple to have something in reserve 'cos with CFS one has reoccuring 'bad' days but stiill can get out on a bike - just. With the new stuff there appears to be a price break between Record/Chorus and the others and read somewhere this is because of some components are common within each of two 'sets'.

Some chainsets specify 111mm BB but this may be too narrow for my knees (102 on my fixie is) so could I use a 115.5mm which is some times specified for a wider downtube? Can't work out why this should be so as all parts are adjustable (unless it is the the chainline?)?
