taking the single-speed / fixed wheel plunge!

Graeme - I tend to lean forward just as I stop, so back wheel lifts slightly and then I can spin it to correct position with my clipped-in right foot. Otherwise whilst at standstill, you apply the front brake and pull up with rear pedal will lift rear wheel and let you bring foot up to top.0

njc97 - I sort of did a clumsy version of that at a junction this morning on the way in. I think that might be the way forwards. The first time I tried it today I had both front and back brake jammed on hard and couldn't work out why I couldn't move the pedals round :roll:0

if u cant work it so u stop with ur fav foot in the ready to start position (and as u said , u cant always), stop with ur clipped in foot at ne point, other foot on the floor, front brake (is there ne other ? )on and lift ur back wheel by pulling up on the point of ur seat, pull or push with ur clippd foot to rotate to a comfy start position.
And impress evry1 u know by casually dropping into the conversation "ahh i ride fixed now )Good Luck and Be Fecund0 -
Wow! First commute done! Exhilarating is probably the best word to describe it. I know it is an obvious thing to say, but you really cannot stop pedalling can you? lol
The part of London which I commute through is hillier than it seems when you are driving a car. Having said that it only took me about 5 minutes longer than normal. Think I need to do some stretches on my inner thighs before I set off in the morning though, that was hard work. Having said that its only going to get easier right?I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let... lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.0 -
IDR, after my first ride out to work and back on Saturday (just wanted to get some miles in and check that there weren't any unpleasant fixed surprises on my route) I was terrified! I felt 95% in control 95% of the time, occasionally I'd get caught out by a missing 5%. On Monday morning I nailed it, and since then I've been fine (touch wood) and felt confident and in control.
Physically I've found it no problem, but my commute is relatively flat.0
