Steerer too short... DAM IT!

i have just boguth a pair of forks, used.

I bought tehm, thinkin ght esteerer would be alrite, measureing the length against my ike, but when i came to fit them, it was too short. it comes ajust over 1cm out of the head tube, but need an extra 3-4cm ontop of that. I just bought some new forks and realy want to use them, butneed to get this sorted! HELLP!!

Any help will be greatley appreciated!

    Ever used an old quill stem? Same as that. Basically, there's a bolt through to the wedge at the bottom, which pulls the wedge up, tightening it inside the steerer tube. I assume that there's a thread of some kind inside the top section on this as well to allow an ahead top cap to be used to preload the headset in the normal way.
