pedestrian green light jumpers!

There is so much bad publicity for cyclists who go through red lights....what about pedestrians who ignore green lights. My route home through central Bristol each evening means i am faced with a number of traffic lights before finally entering the cycle track. Most pedestrians will stop and allow cars to pass when the traffic lights are on green but if you are a cyclist and there are no cars around...and the lights are on green...very few pedestrians will wait...in fact they positively ignore you the cyclist and walk in front or behind you when you are quite legally going through a green light.....So if they choose to ignore me why should I stop for them when the lights turn to red and I become a RLJ...I appreciate the law dictates I should but pedestrians it would appear are not penalized when they jaywalk in front of me....well bo****ks to them....give the cyclist some consideration and maybe I will do the same for you

Two wrongs don't make a right. Besides, the Highway Code states that all road users should always give way to pedestrians. Even though some of them deserve to be ran over! (It may not be worded exactly like that).

Lights are only advisory for pedestrians, but mandatory for vehicles, including you. Mind you I did get soundly berated by a pedestrian last week. He was crossing on the red man, I slowed and waved him on. He said "You should be in the cycle lane" as I was in the main lane. My response "No mate, it's a red light for you, and you should look before crossing", so he screamed and shouted at me about being in the cycle lane. The bus driver, stopped at the same lights and going the opposite direction to me, just rolled his eyes as if to say what a muppet!.
I did chuckle for a couple of hundred yards, and I understand the ped - he made a mistake and then took out his embarassment on me. I hate cycle lanes though, they cause a lot of problems.0 -
There should be rules for peds as it may save their lives.Half the time they dont look when they cross the road.
Cycle lanes are okay if you know how to use the. They cause me no problem.

There are rules for peds, but they're different rules than the ones that cyclists and motorists have to obey. The legal case is often exactly as it should be, with the most rigorous constraints and the balance of responsibility resting on those who actually bring the danger to the roads: fast-moving vehicles.
Cycle lanes cause problems by mis-directing all traffic, regardless of your own level of skill. This post contains traces of nuts.0 -
everyones done it when crossing a road and you're in a hurry a quick glane down the road, no traffic and crossed, probably wouldn't have noticed a bike. doesnt make it any better, but expect it happens all the time.
On a lslightly different note i got run down by a cyclist in dubai. I was a little drunk and in a rush, it was a 2 part crossing so i looked the way the traffic should hve been coming from, nothing there so legged it across (i was in a serious rush) Unfortunately, there was a bike turning into the junction from the wrong direction to go wrong way up the street. I hadn't looked in that direction, his wheel hit my thigh and i went flying across the road ending up i a heap on my face in the middle of the road. Had a huge bruise on my thigh from the wheel for weeks, luckily tho, i mostly bounced due to the few beers i'd already drunk. Funny thing was that i had to calm him down, he was nearly crying while i was thinking "I'm the one who went flying, what are you crying for??" I learnt later that as a westerner and him as an indian, i could have reported him and he would have most likely got thrown out the country!!0
