orange patriot- maxle?

Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a Patriot FR, but i'm confused about the rear Maxle axle. Do all 2007 Patriot FRs come with the 12mm Maxle or is it an option? What kind of riding needs, or would benifit from, this upgrade?

some do some dont.

any riding that want a Qr axel but a less flexy rear end.
