Steel cross frames?

Anybody know if the good old Brit frame builders can make good cross bikes? Only the little guys and Planet X have them listed.

Was thinking along the lines of Mercian or Woodrup :)

    Not featured on their website as they tend to be done strictly on an order-by-order basis, but I know that Mercian offer 'cross versions of their race frames as I once asked for a quote on getting an off-road version of the "King of Mercia" model built (but couldn't afford it and plunged into the S/H market instead!). Pretty sure that Brian Rourke do 'cross frames to order too.
