I am looking for a race bike for next year. :D

Just after some tried and tested suggestions to have a look at.
I have a had 2 Specialized bikes so fancy a change.
A Wilier was my main interest but I feel I'm getting to close to it...

Thanks in advance for any help.

£2k for the complete bike? What kind of racing?

If that was my budget I'd be tempted by a Canyon F10, which I think you could get with Dura Ace.

Alternatively, the Ribble bikebuilder might allow a Dura Ace carbon bike with Eurus or something to be built for £2k?

hmm... the Willer thing though suggests you want a stylish brand which means you probably have to aim a bit lower on either the groupset or the wheels.

I'd also be tempted by old style Trek Madones. They are very heavily discounted right now and come with Dura ACe and high-end Bontrager wheels. Not my cup of tea brand wise, but a very high performance machine for the money.
  • Yeah, I did fancy something different, but I'd rather get a better frame with a lower groupset, than better spec and lesser frame.

Don't really like the look of Trek. Thought of Scott though.

Yes, Scott CR1 is good value I think... great frame for the money.

You are right that if this is all the money you can chuck at it (i.e. no high-end wheels to follow), then you are best off moving down a notch on the groupset and pushing the cash into the frame and wheels.
  • I got my Wilier (Mortirolo, with Chorus groupset) at a price substantially lower than the UK list prices from Comobike in Italy. The service was first class and the bike has been fantastic (had it since March).

The prices quoted on the website are exclusive of VAT. Italian VAT is 20% but it still worked out cheaper (by about £400) than the UK price. Delivery was via UPS.
  • I have owned a Colnago C40 and a Storck Team Issue (alloly). The colnago frame + fork was in the region of £1800 and the storck £800. In my mind the storck was a far superior frame. I am not a great rider, I used to be a category 2 racer so I am not an expert but do not be fooled into the trap that a well known brand makes for a better frame.

If you want an out and out race bike get a Canyon. They are ridiculously good value and win test reviews all the time. I always by German bikes now because I prefer their scientific approach to making their bikes as fast as possible.
  • I have a LOOK 565, could easily make up a top bike with that or a 585 within your budget, rides and looks beautiful, still see some of last years frames discounted, no difference to this years apart from the paintscheme, which doesn't really matter if you have the lovely naked carbon finish

ride it all day for 100+ miles, super smooth :D
