Whats the Hissing about

I'm new to MTBing with a hardtail, I have a new Rockhopper Pro with RockShox Reba SL forks - yesterday I was riding along a lane, went over a cattle grid, and I immediately brought the bike to a halt after the grid because I thought I heard a 2-3 second hissing sound from the front end of the bike - first thoughts were a puncture - nope, nothing wrong. I still had a working front suspension - I don't think its changed, but as a newbie how am I to know?
Any advice? Do front susp forks sometimes behave like this?

Its the oil going through the fork valves - perfectly normal. May only do it on bigger hits.0
