Gas shock - how to increase preload?

Hello

The gas shock on my Specialized FSR XC is too soft for my liking. Can I just buy a pump and increase the pressure? If so, what is a safe pressure?

Thanks
Claire

Usually about 200psi but it depends on the shock type. Add some air until the rear suspension "sags" by about 25% when you sit on the bike.

Buy a shock pump, any will do as long as it has an accurate guage. Unless you are extremely heavy, you wont need to go anywhere near the limits of the shock's safe pressure range. Set up the sag correctly and you should be fine.
