Fixed Hill Climb gearing help

i fancy having a go at doing some hill climbs this year on my fixed.
been to check out some of the hills and i can get up on my road bike with a gear of 39 x 23 (about a 46inch gear), so i was wondering how do i get this size gear on my fixed which at the moment has a 48 front chain ring? u carnt get 28 tooth rear sprockets, biggest i seen around are 20tooth.
do people buy BMX chain rings or what? then u have the problem of getting the right size BCD to fit dont u?
Was thinking could just swap front chainring on my fixed for an old 9speed 39tooth -but the gearing would be still too high and would i be ok running a 1 1/8 chain on it?
ive seen people do hill climbs on fixed bikes - anyone know what u do
any help ?

You can go up to 22t http://www.63xc.com/cogchoice/zmcogchart.htm
with a 39 up front should give you something aroun 50 inches. Plus, it'll be easier fixed.
This guy races on 42x20:
