I have just returned from walking my bike home two miles after being unable to remove the back wheel when I got a puncture.

I have a singlespeed mountain bike. Once the QR was released I was unable to slide the wheel off the horizontal drop-outs on account of the chain. I suspect the answer lies in removal of the screw things "tugs?" on each drop out.

Could some body explain?

Thanks

In general, you undo the axle, slide it forward, derail the chain from the chainring at the front, then slide the wheel out.

On the genesis bikes, you need to loosen off the two 'chain tugs' on the dropouts to let the wheel slide forwards. They come with a _very_ short chain, but there's just enough there to get the chain off the front.
  • No - stupid would be if you'd had 10 miles to walk home!
  • You can fix a puncture with the wheel still in the frame...
