[Bar ends] Cane Creek Ergo on carbon bars

Has anyone ever had problems with bar ends on carbon bars? [I know, ends are a bit out of fashion, but I promise I won't tell

Cane Creek has a big cover-their-ass warning about fitting their Ergo bar ends on carbon bars. Not "don't" ... just "check with manufacturer first".
I know you can get metal end plugs (Specialized make 'em) to "reinforce" the ends, but you can't fit these with the CC Ergos, because they actually "surround" the ends.
