Hi all,

This is a question to anyone who has the above hubs. The freewheel is one nosiy Ba****d! (One of the loudest i've ever heard!)I know people's reply will be to live with it but i'm wondering if there is anyway of making the freewheel quieter, maybe oiling or greasing the pawls (whether it's easily done I don't know). They are brand new by the way.

Thanks

Mine are the same, I bought them to timetrial with but they were so noisy that they got relegated to training wheel. I wonder if the noise and the fact that you can feel thefreewheel braking when you spin them actually slows you down if you were to ever freewheel?

You're not supposed to freewheel in a time trial

Indeed - my TT wheels have old Hope Titanium hubs in, and they're pretty noisy, but I really can't say it bothers me when I'm racing!
  • Thanks for all your replies guys.

One other question, does anyone know how to adjust the bearings on the hubs (particularly the front)? I know you can use allen keys either side of the hubs but all that seems to do is inscrew on side of the hub.

    Thanks

Its cool to have noisy hubs don't you know!!!!

thats the problem with buying MTB brand stuff

and my pro II's sure make me pedal more cos its so annoying on the tarmac (can't hear them off road)
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

  • Firstly what are you doing freewheeling??

Secondly Hope hubs sound way cool!

Thirdly grease in the ratchet works for quietening them down.

Fourthly, if the bearings develop play, just hammer the cartridges out and stick new ones in. (they last about 4 years on my MTB's, so its not really an issue)
