Can anybody recommend a really rugged MP3 suitable for the hills and mud and rain and snow and grit and sh*t!

Ideally it should combine these characteristics...

Run on AA or AAA batteries (so I dont have to worry about a charger when Iam travelling around)
Be flash instead of HD (for increased durability)
At least 1gb (because I am lazy to hook it up to the computer every time I want to add a few more songs)
Tough as carbide coated nails (so that it lasts a little longer than two and a half bike rides)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions..

PS if anyone want s recommendation for earphone then go for the Sennheiser PMX70, they are top banana!

  • I remember maybe a year ago reading something about Oakley sunglasses or googles with an MP3 built in them, try looking on google.

I had one of these a while back, used it for cross country running and found it to be just the job. 1 gig should do you well, its got an expansion slot if you need more room. Looks sort of stylish and runs of 1 AAA battery that lasts around 8 hours ish.
Toguh as you like, and even if you bust it, it wont break the bank to replace it.

Can't really help you with ear phones but something in a similar style to these would be good. Shop around and you'll probably get a beter deal on the 'phones.
I hate to sound preachy but if you're going to be on roads a bit , i wouldn't really recomend music

I use a Creative Zen Nano Plus thing, comes on a handy neck strap or I just dump it in my bag, set it going and forget about it. Uses 1 AAA battery and lasts for a looong time, had it a year or so now, used a few times a week. Bought it for the gym originally because of its mini size.

I did actually have one of the cheaper Alba types before and it broken when I fell in a river  The battery life on the cheaper models is much worse, also try and stick to Alkaline batteries (or find rechargables).
